Read the article to know more:
The B.Sc Renal Dialysis Technology is the 3-year degree programme that can be done after the completion of PUC/12th /or equivalent.
The students who are interested to choose the B.Sc Renal Dialysis Technology should have studied physics, mathematics, chemistry and biology as the core subjects or as option subjects in their class 12th. They should also have an aggregate of 50% in each of the subjects. The Renal dialysis technologists are usually hired in hospitals and dialysis centres. The main role of the renal dialysis technologists is to support the patients with renal failure and help them with external dialysis equipment. They are required to provide the support to the patients and enable the blood purification in renal failure patients.
The blood purification is performed by the kidneys in the human body. But in certain cases, the kidneys fail to perform the function due to kidney disorders. The saddest part is that once the kidneys fail, then the patients have to undergo dialysis throughout their life-time. The dialysis treatments are given to the patients regularly, sometimes it may be for 3-4 days a week or every day. This duration depends upon the condition of the patients and according to the doctor’s advice.
In an era where science and technology are evolving rapidly. The technology has observed a lot of advancements. The last decade witnessed a lot of advanced and modern machines across different fields. This holds good even for the medical industry; every day new machines are invented and placed in the hospitals for the benefit of the patients. The changed lifestyle of the people has resulted in developing new diseases and they are getting admitted to the hospitals for treatments. So, the researchers are being conducted to develop advanced medical equipment that can support the patients.
The increased lifespan of the people has also contributed to the development of diseases and ailments. Some will suffer from heart diseases, while some will suffer from lung infections etc. In the same way some will develop kidney disorders and end up in kidney failure or renal failure. The renal dialysis technologists are required to treat these patients. They are responsible to maintain equipment that performs the function of the kidneys. They are professional experts trained to handle such instruments and keep the patients alive. They should also show compassion towards the patients and try to keep them calm during the dialysis procedures.
The increased number of the kidney failure cases has increased the requirement of the renal dialysis technologists. Millions of them are required to handle these instruments, so demand is more for skilled professionals especially when it comes to renal dialysis technologists. B.Sc Renal Dialysis Technology course is giving the expert training to the students for handling these lifesaving machines and trying to meet the demand generated across the globe for the renal dialysis technologists.
There are many roles available soon after the completion of the B.Sc Renal Dialysis Technology. They are seen working in hospitals, community health centres, nursing homes, dialysis centres, diagnostic centres, polyclinics etc. Some of the roles available are:
The nephrologists are responsible to coordinate with the physicians about the patients. They should send various reports such as high blood pressure, diabetes, anaemia, heart problems that contribute to kidney failures. They should analyse the condition of the kidney and adjust the machine accordingly.
The dialysis therapist is responsible for providing dialysis treatments for kidney failure patients. They are responsible to analyse the condition of the patients and adjust the machine accordingly. They are responsible to perform various procedures like tubing, attachment of the dialyser to the patients, assembly of the dialysis apparatus for dialysis. They are also responsible to note down the readings and also keep an eye on vital organs and parameters.
They are responsible to organise and oversee the administrative aspects of the health services in the hospitals. They are also required to coordinate with the kidney failure patients and concerned dialysis technologists for timely treatments and procedures in hospitals and nursing homes. They will be seen working in hospitals, clinics and other patient care environments.
The medical technicians perform all the laboratory procedures in the clinical and diagnostic labs. They perform testing of samples, recording the readings. They are required to provide the proper lab results on which the physicians decide to give treatments to the patients.
The dialysis technician is responsible to operate the dialysis machine. They perform all the tasks like tubing, attaching the dialyser to the patients, check the blood sugar levels during the dialysis procedure. Simultaneously they will be recording the results and generating reports of the complete dialysis process.
They are hired in the companies that manufacture the dialysis machines. They are required to explore the markets for the machines and create the demand for them. They are also required to do the quality assurance tests of the dialysis machines before delivery.
The B.Sc Renal Dialysis technology students after the completion of their degree can join M.Sc. Renal Sciences and will study in-depth about the subject. They can take up the teaching profession after the completion of their masters and join as lecturers in colleges and universities. If they are interested in research then can join the PhD courses and continue to research.
The average B.Sc Renal Dialysis Technology students will be earning the average salary of 3 lakhs to 8 lakhs per annum. The freshers will be earning nearly 2.5 lakhs per annum. While the experience will be earning around 8 to 10 lakhs per annum. The salary varies according to the experience and skills gained by them during their careers.
