What is B.Sc Microbiology?

The B.Sc Microbiology course is the 3-year degree course that can be done by the students who have finished their PUC or 10+2 class. The students who are interested to join B.Sc Microbiology are mandatorily required to study PCB/CBZ in their PUC or 10+2 classes.

Microbiology has emerged as the key biological science, since when the microorganisms were used to provide the model used in the study of molecular biology for research purposes. The microbiology deals with the study of the microorganisms that are invisible to the naked eye for the research activities. Many companies are researching these microorganisms and are trying to study how they will be beneficial for the benefit of humanity.

The study on the microorganisms helps the researchers to understand the fundamental concepts of the progression of human life. The B.Sc Microbiology students will be trying to find numerous answers at the microscopic level and try to implement them for the benefit of humans. The ability of these microorganisms to degrade oil in oil spills, herbicides, pesticides and to supplement food, produce energy along with other uses of the microorganisms is gaining a lot of importance in the last decade. The B.Sc Microbiology students will be studying all these factors in the microorganisms using sophisticated tools like microscopes, laminar air flows and culturing.

Why study B.Sc Microbiology?

The main aim of the course is to train the students on the various techniques involved in the study of the microorganism. The study of the B.Sc microbiology helps the researchers to understand the evolutionary relationships between the microbes and their habitats. The B.Sc microbiology students by the means of the culturing mechanisms to cultivate the microbes and study about their survival percentage. This helps the microbiologists to understand the habitat of the microbes and try to analyse their competencies.

The study of the microbes helps the researchers to find the antibodies and various vaccines for the treatments that are caused by various pathological microorganisms. The best example is the COVID-19 virus. This coronavirus has created a pandemic and can be termed as the largest pandemic situation that occurred in the history of human existence, which brought the whole world to the standstill. Many research companies are still struggling to find the right vaccine and treatments for the coronavirus. The B.Sc microbiology students come into the picture for their skills and expertise. They do the culture of the sample of the virus and try to find out the exact treatment and vaccines against this virus.

Microbiology is the broad discipline that involves the study of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and fungi. The main focus of the B.Sc microbiology students is to research and find out the pathogens that cause diseases in human beings. The course covers diverse topics like biotechnology, biochemistry, physiology and genetics of the microorganisms.

The microbiologists will work in many different areas in a variety of different roles. They are required to develop clean and green technologists to achieve a sustainable environment. They are required to develop biodegradable materials by using microbes and help to protect the environment from pollution. The B.Sc Microbiology students played a crucial part in humanity by discovering many vaccines to various fatal diseases like HIV, Ebola, Malaria, dengue, leprosy etc.
