Introduction to Chemistry
Chemistry is the study of matter, its properties, how and why substances combine or separate to form other substances and how substances interact with energy. Every material in its existence in this universe is made up of matter including us. In other words, chemistry deals with the chemicals and compositions of matter that form the blocks of life. Chemistry is involved in everything we do from growing and cooking food to cleaning our homes. Even the objects that are launched to space by space shuttles are made up of chemistry. The field of chemistry is omnipresent and is required everywhere.
Chemistry is the branch of natural science that deals principally with the properties of substances, the changes they undergo and the natural laws that describe these changes. The study of chemistry involves both qualitative and quantitative substances that are around us.
An Introduction to B.Sc Chemistry
B.Sc Chemistry is an undergraduate course that deals with the study of concepts of chemistry. The course is 3 years and is divided into 6 semesters. The course curriculum deals with various aspects of chemistry that includes chemical reactions, chemical composition of substances etc. The B.Sc Chemistry course is a specialised course for students who wish to acquire knowledge on the fundamentals of chemistry and various chemical reactions. The course focuses on various branches of chemistry which include physical chemistry, organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry.
Combinations of Chemistry
B.Sc Chemistry is usually studied in triple combinations. As Chemistry is a universal subject it is studied in various combinations. Some of them to explore here are:
- B.Sc Chemistry (Hons)
- B.Sc Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics
- B.Sc Chemistry, Botany, Zoology
- B.Sc Microbiology, Chemistry, Botany
- B.Sc Microbiology Chemistry, Zoology
- B.Sc Biotechnology, Chemistry, Botany
- B.Sc Biotechnology, Chemistry, Zoology
- B.Sc Biotechnology, Chemistry, Microbiology
- B.Sc Nutrition & Dietetics, Chemistry, Zoology
- B.Sc Chemistry, Environmental Science, Zoology
- B.Sc Nutrition & Dietetics, Chemistry, Human Development.
Eligibility for B.Sc Chemistry
The students who have completed their PUC or 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics (PCM) or Chemistry, Botany, Zoology (CBZ) subjects from recognised board are eligible to apply for B.Sc Chemistry course.
