Introduction
The ’Ishan Uday Scholarship’ is provided by the Ministry of HRD and is implemented through University Grants Commission (UGC). The scholarship is awarded to promote higher education in the North Eastern Region (NER). The scholarship is aimed at promoting higher education and encouraging children belonging to the economically weaker section of the North East Region (NER).
Funding
The ‘Ishan Uday’ Scholarship scheme is 100% funded by Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), Government of India
Availability
The UGC will award 10,000 fresh scholarships/year. Allocation of slots for each State shall be done based upon the population (latest census report) of the respective State. If the slots remain vacant in any particular State, the unfilled slots shall be distributed equitably among other States. There shall be 3% horizontal reservation for differently- abled persons.
Eligibility
The student should have passed Class XII in the preceding year of study, secured admission in first year of any degree course, either general Degree course of Technical/Professional/Medical/Paramedical course (Integrated courses included) in any of the following University/College/Institutes:
- Universities/Institutions/Colleges included under Section 2(f) and 12 (B) of UGC Act
- Deemed to be Universities included under Section 3 of the UGC Act, 1956 and eligible to receive grants-in-aid from UGC
- Universities/Institutions/Colleges funded by Central / State Government
- Institutes of National Importance
- Institutions recognized by other Statutory councils within as well as outside
The admission should have been made in University/ Institution/ College with AISHE code.
- For availing scholarship under this scheme, the income of the parents of the student should not exceed Rs.4.5 LPA from all sources
- Transgender candidates are also eligible to apply under the scheme
Duration
- After selection, the awardees will be paid scholarship on DBT mode
- Scholarship granted under the scheme will be kept renewed during the period of first-degree course, subject to good conduct and maintenance of prescribed attendance
Benefits
- Rs. 5400/month for general Degree course
- Rs.7800/month for Technical/Medical/Professional/Paramedical courses.
Mode of Application
Applications will be invited once in a year on the National e-Scholarship Portal of the Government of India. Short notification will also be uploaded on the UGC website. It is mandatory for all students to apply online on the website i.e. www.scholarships.gov.in.
Documents Required
- The marksheet of Class XII
- Certificate issued by the Director/Principal/Head of the Institute.
- Tuition fee receipt
- Certificate issued by the government official not less than the rank of Tahsildar
- AADHAR seeded Bank Pass Book in the name of the student indicating Account number, IFSC code and photograph
- AADHAR Card
- Declaration the parents duly signed stating that the information provided about their child is correct and that they will refund the scholarship amount, if found false at any stage
