Karnataka becomes the 1st state in the country to implement engineering education in Kannada. Five colleges from Karnataka have signed up to offer engineering education in Kannada at the undergraduate level from the academic year 2022-23. 

Five colleges that are ready to offer engineering in Kannada:

  1. Cambridge Institute of Technology, Bengaluru

  2. Tontadarya College of Engineering, Gadag

  3. BLDE College of Engineering, Vijayapura

  4. SJC Institute of Technology, Chikkaballapur

  5. Coorg Institute of Technology, Ponnampet

The central government formulated National Education Policy (NEP) in August 2020 and had recommended offering technical courses in 11 regional colleges. The AICTE recently permitted all the engineering colleges to offer engineering courses in 11 regional languages of Hindi, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Gujarati, Malayalam, Bengali, Assamese, Punjabi and Oriya, based on the recommendations of NEP.

The five colleges from Karnataka after receiving the permission from AICTE have come forward to offer Engineering Education in Kannada language. The prime minister recently inaugurated 14 colleges in eight states which offer engineering courses in regional languages.
