  • The State government has decided to ban live virtual classes from LKG to Class 5 across all boards. The decision was taken after the authorities received complaints from parents about the duration of online classes that private schools were conducting.
  • Schools are free to conduct pre-recorded videos, along the lines of those conducted by the department on DD Chandana.
  • After a meeting with experts and department officials, Primary and Secondary Education Minister S. Suresh Kumar, at a press conference on Wednesday, said “Online classes cannot supplement classroom teaching. Many private schools are in a hurry to complete the syllabus but there is a need to move away from this approach. Besides, there is a need for consensus on screen time that students should be exposed during this exercise”.
  • The Government also said that the schools cannot collect excess fees for conducting online classes and if they can cut down on the fees they are welcomed to do so.
