BS in Philippines not equal to MBBS in India according to NMC

The National Medical Council (NMC) has stated that the BS course in the Philippines is not equivalent to the MBBS course in India. The decision was taken in consideration of the representations made by students pursuing BS courses in the Philippines, before the publication of Gazette of India i.e, FMGL Regulations 2021, that sought exemption or special dispensation.

The NMC stated that the pattern BS Course in the Philippines is not according to the MBBS curriculum in India. The NMC further added that the candidates of BS course are not being taught pre-clinical subjects like Anatomy, Biochemistry, Biophysics, Microbiology, etc and cannot be considered as qualified for MBBS in India.

The NMC further stated that all the students who have already taken admission for any foreign medical course which is not equivalent to the MBBS course in India, cannot be treated as eligible qualification for registration to practice medicine in India. Whereas, the students who have taken admission in MD courses in the Philippines prior to FMGL Regulations 2021 can be considered as eligible for registration and practice of medicine in India.
