As an interior and spatial designer, one is responsible to design or renovate the internal spaces with architectural knowledge and creativity.

Role of the Interior and Spatial Designer

Interior and spatial designers are involved in design or renovate internal spaces, that includes structural alterations, furnishings, fixtures and fittings, lightning and colour schemes.

Responsibilities of an interior and Spatial Designer

As an interior and spatial designer, one is needed to:

  • Develop initial ideas and acquire key information about the potential projects, discuss requirements in detail with clients and brief and set schedules
  • Understand clients needs and the needs of people using the building to develop design concepts and establish final briefs
  • Consider materials and costs according to budgets and negotiate project fees
  • Conduct feasibility studies for projects

The fresh M.Arch students will be earning around 5 lakhs to 9 lakhs per annum. The experienced professionals will be earning around 7 lakhs to 12 lakhs per annum. The salary depends upon the location and recruiter.

Town Planner

As a town planner one is responsible to design buildings, parks and roads to make the places attractive and convenient for people to use.

Role of the Town Planner

As a town planner, one will be involved in the management and development of cities, towns, villages and countryside. The main aim of the town planner is to balance the conflicting demands of housing, industrial development, agriculture, recreation, transport and the environment.

Responsibilities of a Town Planner

As a town planner one is responsible to:

  • Cover a broad area of work using many different skills
  • Choose whether to specialise in a particular area, such as protecting the historical environment urban design or to work across a variety of areas
  • Develop creative and original solutions to satisfy parties
  • Consult with stakeholders and other interested parties
  • Negotiate with developers and other professionals such as surveyors and architects
  • Assess planning applications and monitor outcomes as necessary
  • Research and design planning policies to guide development
  • Research and analyse data to help inform strategic developments such as increase in affordable housing provision
  • Design layouts and draft design statements

Structural Engineer

The structural engineers are creative innovators who use their technical minds to design structures, solve problems and shape the world around them.

Role of a Structural Engineer

As a structural engineer one is responsible to design structures to withstand stresses and pressures imposed through environmental condition and human use.

Responsibilities of a Structural Engineer

As a structural engineer one is responsible to:

  • Analyse configurations of the basic components of the structure
  • Calculate the pressures, stresses and strains that each component, such as a beam or lintel, will experience from other parts of the structure due to human use or environmental pressures such as weather or earthquakes
  • Consider the strength of various materials, e.g. timber, concrete, steel and brick, to see how their inclusion may necessitate a change of structural design
  • Liaise with other designers, including architects, to agree on safe designs and their fit with the aesthetic concept of the construction
  • Examine structures at risk of collapse and advise how to improve their structural integrity, such as recommending removal or repair of defective parts or rebuilding the entire structure
  • Make drawings, specifications and computer models of structures for building contractors
  • Work with geotechnical engineers to investigate ground conditions and analyse results of soil sample and in situ tests
  • Liaise with construction contractors to ensure that newly erected buildings are structurally sound
  • Apply expert knowledge of the forces that act on various structures
  • Use computers and computer-aided design (CAD) technology for simulation purposes
