M.Sc Nursing is a 2-year post graduate programme that can be done after the completion of bachelor’s in nursing. The course involves a detailed study of different modules of nursing such as obstetrics & gynaecology, general treatment, ophthalmology, gastric, nephrology, psychiatry, oncology, etc.

The M.Sc Nursing course trains the students to work as registered nurses in a wide variety of settings that include hospitals, multi-level care facilities, community agencies as well as psychiatric or mental health settings. The main aim of the course is to develop the nursing skills along with empathy and compassion among the students and develop them into successful nurses.

Eligibility for M.Sc Nursing

  • The students should have passed B.Sc Nursing/B.Sc (Hons) Nursing/Post Basic Nursing with 55% aggregate from recognised university
  • The students should have undergone the B.Sc Nursing/B.Sc (Hons) in Nursing/Post Basic Nursing in an institution recognised by Indian Nursing Council
  • The students should have minimum 1-year experience after B.Sc Nursing
  • The students should have minimum 1-year work experience prior or after Post Basic Nursing
  • The students should be a registered midwife or equivalent with any State Nursing Registration Council

Admissions Procedures

The students have the option to join M.Sc Nursing course by two modes of admission (1) Merit based admission and (2) Direct admission.

1. Merit Based Admissions

The students looking for Merit based admissions in colleges affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS) are required to qualify the PGCET entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). They are also required to undergo counselling sessions conducted by KEA in order to get admissions to M.Sc Nursing course. The merit seats have reasonable fee structure that is fixed by the government.

2. Direct Admissions Procedures

The students also have an option to get admission to M.Sc Nursing course. This process is called the direct admission process. The students can directly take admission to their desired colleges without any entrance exams. The students under direct admission procedures are given special privileges such that they are not required to appear for any entrance exams and are also not required to undergo any counselling sessions. The main advantage of this process is that the students can choose their desired colleges and get confirmed admissions in those colleges. The interested students can contact the educational advisory centres for getting direct admissions to M.Sc Nursing course. The fees are slightly higher for direct admission seats.
