The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) under the Ministry of Higher Education Government of India is the Statutory & Sovereign body to give NAAC accreditation grades for all the colleges of India based on various parameters like quality education, infrastructure, placement, statistics, etc. The NAAC accredited colleges are ranked according to their grades when it comes to the quality of education.
The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) under the NEP 2020 policy has relaxed various eligibility criteria for accreditation of higher educational institutions in India. As per the latest data available, the NAAC has already accredited nearly about 1,043 universities and 42,343 colleges across the country.
New NAAC guidelines
The NAAC has announced recently that the colleges which have completed 1-year of the working can apply for Provisional Accreditation of College (PAC). Under the NEP 2020 initiative the government has relaxed many guidelines for accreditations. Previously the colleges had to wait from four to six years to get accredited. But with the implementation of the new guidelines, the new educational institutes can go for Provisional Accreditation after one year of completion.
The officials of NAAC stated that new guidelines of PAC will help realise the goal of the National Education Policy, 2020 to accredit all higher education institutes in India in a phased manner. This helps the colleges to continue to review every year until they get their final accreditation.
The NAAC officials stated that the new guidelines are in line with the vision of NEP 2020 with the aim to provide quality and skill centric education India and achieve the milestone of “Skill India”.
