Exams for only 29 Main subjects and no exams for remaining papers

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has decided to conduct exams only for 29 main subjects out of the 41 pending subjects of Class X and Class XI board. This decision was taken due to the nation-wide lockdown measures implemented due to COVID-19.

The board has decided to conduct exams to only 29 main subjects’ papers that are required for promotion and crucial for university.

The board also stated that whenever the CBSE board is in position to conduct exams, then only the exams will be conducted for all these 29 main subjects by giving adequate notice to all the stakeholders.

The Union HRD Minister Mr. Ramesh Pokhriyal announced this decision in the press meet today held at New Delhi. The CBSE board has taken this decision as it was not in a position to hold exams due to the pandemic situation caused by COVID-19 and also due to the law and order situation that happened at North-East Delhi.

The board could not conduct exams for various reasons namely: No exams were conducted for eight days due to lockdown measures, Exams were cancelled on four days due to the law and order situation in North-east Delhi and also a small number of students located in and around this area were not able to appear for exams on six days.

So, in total there were two papers of Class X exams and 39 papers for Class XII that includes 28 language papers, all these papers are postponed due to the above situations.

No exams for Schools located outside India

The board has also decided not to conduct any exams for the students of Class X and Class XII from the schools that are located outside India, which have been also affected due to the lockdown measures and have suspended all their academic activities.

The CBSE board also stated that it is not possible to announce new exam schedule amid grave circumstances, but the board assured that a 10 days’ notice will be given to all the stakeholders before starting the board exams.

The board also stated that all the decisions related to all the exams will be taken only after discussing with the higher authorities of the government.

The board has also decided to promote all the students from Class I to Class VIII to the subsequent classes without exams.

The senior students of Class IX and XI will be proposed based on school-based assessments, including project-work, periodic tests, term exams etc. that are conducted so far,
