GATE 2026 Exam – Last Day to Apply Without Late Fee (September 28, 2025)
The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE 2026) is one of the most significant national-level entrance exams in India, conducted in collaboration by the IITs and IISc. The GATE exam is necessary for individuals who are applying for a postgraduate degree (M.E./M.Tech/Ph.D.) at top engineering colleges in Bangalore and universities in India, as well as being hired for jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) like IOCL, NTPC, ONGC, BHEL, and others. Every year, in the hundreds of thousands, people apply for the exam, as this starts the pathway to their higher education, funding opportunities, fellowships, and jobs in PSUs.
If you are planning to take the GATE exam in 2026, a reminder that September 28, 2025, is the deadline to register without a late fee. After that date, individuals can register with a late fee until October 9, 2025.
GATE 2026 Registration Dates
- Last date to apply without a late fee - September 28th, 2025
- Last date to apply with a late fee - October 9th, 2025
Gate Application Fees
The following is the official fee structure for GATE 2026 applications:
- Female / SC / ST / PwD applicants - ?1,000 (during regular period)
- All other applications (General / OBC / EWS) - ?2,000 (during regular period)
- If you apply between September 29 - October 9, 2025, there is an additional late fee of ?500.
To avoid the late fee, we recommend that you complete your GATE registration before September 28, 2025.
GATE 2026 Eligibility Criteria
Just in case you missed it or are wondering about your eligibility for GATE 2026, here are the main criteria you need to know before applying. Candidates registering for GATE 2026 will need to fulfil the following eligibility criteria:
- Educational Qualification- Candidates are required to either have completed, or are in the last year of their Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Technology, Science, Commerce or Arts, as per the newly issued eligibility criteria for GATE.
- Eligible Degrees - B.E., B.Tech, B.Arch, B.Sc, B.Com, BCA, MCA, Integrated M.Sc., Integrated B.E./M.Tech, and others, as governed by the prescribed eligibility rules and recognised by the government.
- Age Limit - There is no age limit for a candidate to appear for GATE 2026.
- Nationality - Candidates must be Indian or international candidates from specific countries such as Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore and, UAE are permitted.
