Karnataka to get 30 ‘Super Engineering’ colleges aims to increase the quality of engineering education. Each district in Karnataka will be getting one super engineering college, according to higher education minister Dr.C. Ashwath Narayan.

The minister said a committee will be formed under the Vice Chancellor of Visvesvaraya Technological University and it will be a panel consisting of academic experts, industry leaders and officials.

The minister also said that the priority will be given in developing the government colleges in the districts where they are available. In the absence of government engineering colleges, the private engineering colleges of the particular districts will be selected and developed into super engineering colleges with top notch infrastructure, cutting edge equipment and machineries. The focus will be mainly on faculty training, industry collaborations, setting up of laboratories and foreign collaborations.

The minister also stated that the colleges with high quality are not considered for this initiative, as the motto is to develop the colleges with lack of quality and education. The colleges with less quality and infrastructure will be identified by the committee and it will be developed into ‘Super Engineering College’.
