The IIT-Madras will launch two-year MA degree programmes in economics, English studies and development studies in the 2023-24 academic year. Mr V. Kamakoti Director, IIT-Madras stated that the new MA programmes will be restructured to include more contemporary subjects such as economics for innovation, urban planning and development, health policy, environmental humanities, climate economics, computational linguistics, among others. He further added that the two-year programmes will provide flexibility of choice and encourage many graduates to apply to IIT-Madras for a degree.
Mr V. Kamakoti further stated that the courses are being restructured to make them accessible to more students who have completed under graduation in multiple disciplines, including humanities, science, commerce and engineering under the NEP 2020.
He further added that the programmes will include evidence-based policy analysis, data science and governance, engagement with contemporary issues such as climate change, sustainability and urbanisation, among others.
