The Ministry of Education announced a 4-years Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), under NEP 2020. This is the dual degree course offered in 3 formatsÂ
According to the ministry the integrated course is introduced to replace the 5-years B.Ed degree by 4-years integrated degrees under the recommendations of NEP 2020. The course will be introduced in the academic year 2022-23 in pilot mode and it will be Initially offered in 50 selected multidisciplinary institutions across the country from this academic year. The integrated course was launched in order to make it a minimum requirement for the candidates interested in teaching by the year 2030 under NEP 2020 initiatives.
The course is designed to deliver excellent pedagogy by establishing a strong foundation in early childhood care and education, foundational literacy and numeracy, inclusive education, and an understanding of India and its values, ethos, art, traditions etc. The admission for the same will be carried out by the National Testing Agency (NTA) through the National Common Entrance Test.
The ministry has stated that the National Council for Teacher Education has devised the curriculum of this course according to the NEP 2020 recommendations. The integrated course is designed in such a way that it enables the students to get a degree in education as well as a specialised discipline in any of the subjects of history, mathematics, science, arts, economics, or commerce.Â
The ministry further stated that the course is designed to imbibe the qualities and expertise that a teacher is required to possess. Overall, the course develops the students holistically into better teachers and increases the quality of teaching and education to the children.
