MBBS is one of the most aspirated courses by the majority of students across the globe. Each year lakhs of students dream to join an MBBS course but only few of them make it to the MBBS degree. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery – MBBS is a 5.5-years undergraduate course where the students are trained on medical and surgical treatments. The candidates have to pass the NEET exam to get admission to the MBBS course.

What is Physiotherapy?

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) course is an undergraduate professional course which is offered under the category of Allied Health Science. The course that deals with the science of physical movement and channelising it to prevent disability and diseases of movement people. The candidates are provided theoretical and practical exposure to various methods and techniques like exercise and massage to improve, strengthen and enhance flexibility

Eligibility 

The eligibility is common for both MBBS and physiotherapy courses, except for some differences. The students who have completed their PUC or 12th in science stream with 50% aggregate from recognised boards are eligible for both the courses.

For MBBS: The students have to qualify the NEET exam to get admission to MBBS course

For BPT: There is no entrance exam required to join BPT course.

Some of the differences between MBBS and BPT courses are:

  • Although both the courses come under health sciences, there are some differences between them. 
  • Both the students will be getting jobs in healthcare organisations such as hospitals, clinics etc. Both the graduates will be working towards treating the patients but in different perspectives. 
  • The MBBS doctors will be specialists in specific organs of the human body, while the physiotherapists are limited to physical mobility related to  illness in the patients. 
  • The MBBS doctors diagnose, treat the illness through medication and treatments and sometimes conduct surgeries, while the physiotherapists will be involved in physical exercises and non-surgical methods
  • Physiotherapy is an independent health profession which is mainly directed towards the prevention or alleviation of movement dysfunction in people. While medical is directed in overall wellness of the human body
  • Physiotherapy is a non-surgical treatment process aimed to reduce pain, improving movement & restoring functionality in order to improve the patient’s health, while the MBBS involves surgical invasion for diagnosis and treatments
  • Physiotherapy is used in most of the cases, where they use some techniques with some devices to prevent the patients from disease or pain from which they are suffering. While the MBBS doctors prescribe medication to give relief to the patients irrespective of their illness. But in case of critical illness like heart, kidney, brain etc may require surgery to be performed by MBBS doctors
