What is Nursing?
Nursing is the field of allied health science that mainly focuses on looking after the ill and injured patients and helping them to recover from their illness as soon as possible. In the real- world, nurses are always in the front line of health care. They combine the principles of health sciences with the art of caring to ensure patient comfort and speedy recovery. The nurses also serve as patient’s advocates, health educators and coordinators of different health care services. Their expertise has enabled nurses to work in a wide variety of settings, including adult facilities, prisons, officers, private clinics and even military bases.
Introduction to Post Basic B.Sc Nursing Course
Post Basic B.Sc Nursing is a 2-year undergraduate programme pursued by eligible candidates in the field of nursing. The course provides a holistic mixture of classroom lectures and hands-on practical sessions. The post basic B.Sc course is a job-oriented course and the main objectives of the course are:
- Provide an opportunity to aspiring nurses to upgrade the knowledge and skills needed in responding to changing health needs of the society
- Motivate the nurses to maintain and keep up with clinical competence for providing quality services
- Develop teaching, administrative and research skills
- Promote personal and professional growth for better opportunities in nursing field
Eligibility for Post Basic B.Sc Nursing
- The students must have a diploma in General Nursing & Midwifery (GNM)
- The students should be registered as nurses in Nursing council and should have 2-years minimum experience as a nurse in a hospital or community healthcare centre
- The students should have passed their PUC or 10+2 in any stream with English as compulsory subject from recognised board
Admission Process
The eligible students who are interested to apply for Post Basic B.sc course can take admission through two modes of admission (1) Merit admission (2) Direct admission.
1. Merit Admission
The students who are opting for merit admission are compulsorily required to apply and qualify the Karnataka CET entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). The students who qualify this entrance exam are required to undergo necessary counselling procedures in order to get admission to Post Basic B.Sc Course. The fees are nominal and are fixed by the government.
