Master of Science (MSc) Microbiology is a postgraduate degree in life sciences. It has a duration of two years. Microbiology is the branch of science that involves the study of living organisms and their interaction and relationship with other living things and the environment. The course is usually taken after a three-year BSc graduate degree in science or life science subjects. The MSc Microbiology course prepares candidates for application and research-based careers. The course emphasizes on the theoretical and practical fundamentals and applications of Microbiology. It is an interdisciplinary subject and involves basic concepts of Biology and Chemistry. Important and useful concepts are taught and their applications in developing and designing new techniques and methods for identification, analysis, diagnosis, extraction, and measurement. Students are prepared for roles in fermentation process development, media optimization, flask studies, and strain improvement.

Subjects involved in MSc Microbiology are related to microbial, water microbiology, soil microbiology, general microbiology, nano microbiology, environmental microbiology, agricultural microbiology, industrial microbiology, evolutionary microbiology, molecular biology, immunology, microbial genetics, veterinary microbiology, food microbiology, clinical microbiology, and microbial antibiotics. The course builds personal skills like communication, attention to detail, teamwork, logic, presentation, and analysis; and professional and social skills like planning and execution, problem-solving, critical thinking, analytical thinking, and reasoning.
