The BA Music students have decent job opportunities in recent years. They are basically hired in different job roles available in the music industry. The present article tries to analyse some of the important job roles that are available for BA Music course students.

Music Producer

As a music producer one is needed to be highly creative, driven, resilient and a great communicator to make it in the exciting and competitive world of music production.

Role of a Music Producer

A music producer assists artists and groups in the studio to create recorded music for an album, advertisement or any other kind of creative output. The music producers are responsible for developing and making creative content.

Responsibilities of a Music Producer

As a music producer one is needed to:

  • Listening to an artist’s demo tapes and working with artists to produce the sound they require
  • Deciding on an appropriate studio for an artist’s music and equipment
  • Advising on album songs
  • Operating technical equipment including mixing desks
  • Technical work including audio editing, sound design and ghost production
  • Helping artists to achieve the sounds they are striving for
  • Working with organisations, venues and artists involved in live events
  • Finding and booking suitable venues
  • Making the arrangement of other facilities such as catering, entertainment and insurance
  • Working with marketing teams to prepare printed material

Salary and Emoluments

The fresh BA Music students will be earning nearly around 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs per annum. The experienced professionals will be earning nearly around 6 lakhs to 8 lakhs per annum.

Sound Engineers

The sound engineers combine technical knowledge with creativity and produce high quality sound at live performances, recording studios or recorded events

Role of a Sound Engineer

The sound engineers are responsible to manipulate the acoustics to achieve the desired result. They may work in different setups but the ultimate goal of the sound engineer is to produce excellent and high-quality sounds. The sound engineers work in different contexts such as:

  • Live Concerts
  • Auditoriums
  • Recording Studios
  • Opera Theatres
  • Radio Stations
  • Advertising Sessions

Sound engineers are responsible to avoid sound distortions, they are required to calibrate the sound equipment and tune them to produce the high-quality sounds. They are necessary to adjust sound frequencies of various instruments and ensure that every instrument is best played to produce the best tune.

Responsibilities of a Sound Engineer

The sound engineer has to perform varied tasks depending upon the situation. Generally, he/she is expected to carry out certain tasks like:

  • Communicate with the performers, directors to understand their artistic vision and tune the music accordingly
  • Design, setup and test audio equipment including microphones and the speaker system with the assistance of the system technician
  • Conduct individual recording of each instrument and vocal in a studio setup
  • Conduct sound checks and monitor the sound in live performances
  • Add sound effects like echo and equalisations during live performances
  • Resolve any audio-related technical problems that arise during the performances
  • Dismantle all audio equipment after the performance at studio session, reporting and resolving any faults to ensure equipment is safely maintained
  • Enhance, edit and mix sound recorded tracks
  • Master the mixed and edited tracks by listening to them and then using specialist equipment, such as equalizers or filters, to create a final completed version, which realizes the artists vision and is ready for release
  • Log and archive the studio recording

Salary and Emoluments

Musician

The musicians are responsible to compose, play instruments and even sing sometimes after in the studio or in a live audience. They are responsible to create and perform music in a variety of genres, such as classical, rock, pop, Indie, Jazz or folk music.

Role of Musician

As a musician one is required to create the music for a movie or an advertisement or any event. They are required to create music according to the latest tastes of the audiences

Responsibilities of a Musician

As a musician one is needed to:

  • Perform at concerts, festivals, theatre’s and other music venues
  • Participate recording sessions
  • Practice regularly
  • Attend rehearsals and plan performances
  • Prepare for auditions
  • Look for your instrument and voice
  • Set up or tune the instruments and other equipment, arranging for its transportation
  • Compose new songs and music
  • Promote the act by making demos, using social media, setting up of own website and contact agents and recording companies
  • Handle the administration of business activities such as handling accounts negotiating fees and organising distribution of the recordings both offline and online
  • Seek out new venues in which to perform
  • Arrange gigs and tours either yourself or through a manager or an agent
  • Deliver educational work in schools, businesses and the wider community

Broadcast Presenter

As a Broadcast presenter one will work in highly competitive industries such as television and radio presenters. He/she is responsible for creating quality content that can reach the audiences in large numbers.

Role of a Broadcast Presenter

A Broadcast Presenter is the face or voice of programmes, broadcasts via televisions, radio and the internet. As a broadcast manager one will work on a variety of platforms, including national, regional, satellite and cable television, local and national radio and online platforms. The role of the broadcast presenter is to entertain and inform the audience by presenting information in an accessible and attractive way.

Responsibilities of a Broadcast Presenter

As a Broadcast presenter one is needed to:

  • Research topics and background information for items to be featured on the programme
  • Plan and rehearse shows
  • Create attractive scripts and present them to audiences
  • Coordinate with other members of the production and technical teams
  • Introduce and host programmes
  • Read short news, traffic, sports or weather reports
  • Keep the programming running to schedule, responding positively and quickly to problems or changes and improvising where necessary
  • Meet with the production crew to assess or review a broadcast and to plan the next one

Salary and Emoluments

The fresh BA Music students will be earning nearly around 4 lakhs to 6 lakhs per annum. The experienced professionals will be earning nearly around 6 lakhs to 8 lakhs per annum.
