There are many more options in the number of drugs and OTC are available in the market as compared to a few years back. There is more than one type of medication available to treat a single disease. Over the years there has been an increase in the elderly population in many countries and because of this, there has been an increase in the number of chronic diseases. Elderly people are more prone to such diseases and their recovery rate is often slow as compared to younger individuals. A pharmacist has the expertise in helping elderly patients in navigating through complicated medications which in turn helps in reducing the financial burden. The demand for geriatrics, long term care and consultant pharmacists has also increased with the increase in the aging population.
