Pharmacy is a licensed profession in which pharmacists provide information regarding medication to patients and health care professionals. Pharmacy basically includes the study of different mechanisms of action, indication, administration, elimination, excretion, contraindications and adverse side effects that are caused by drugs and medicines. Pharmacy also refers to the healthcare profession that deals with both the fields of health science as well as chemistry. Pharmacy basically deals with the management of drugs that are needed for mankind. Pharmacists basically deal with the preparation and dispensing of drugs and medicines for the benefit of mankind.
Introduction to Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharma)
Bachelor of Pharmacy or B. Pharma is a job oriented undergraduate degree for science students who are looking for careers in the pharmacy sector. The B. Pharm course duration is 4-years and is divided into 8 semesters. The main aim of the course is to train the students about the various drugs and their formulations. The course trains the student in detail about the specific drugs that are used in the real-world that helps the patients to get cured from their illness as soon as possible.
The course also aids in developing the skills necessary to counsel the patients on the use of medicines and drugs. The curriculum is a combination of a number of experiments along with theory classes. The pharmacy course also teaches the students about the functioning of medicines and their effect on the human body. The course also teaches the students to become attentive professionals so as to ensure selection of the right drug for the right treatment.
Eligibility for B.Pharma Course
- The students should have completed their PUC or 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Zoology, Botany from recognised board
- The students who have completed their D.Pharma are also eligible to apply for B.Pharma courses
Admission Procedure
The students interested to join B.Pharma course can apply through 2 modes of admissions procedures. One is merit admission procedure and another is direct admission procedure.
1. Merit Admission Procedure
The students interested to join B.Pharm course under merit admission are required to appear for Karnataka CET entrance exam conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). After the examination the students are required to undergo counselling sessions in order to get admission to merit seats of colleges. Apart from this there are many institution-based entrance exams that are conducted by some colleges, the students are also required to appear for such exams in order to get admission to specific colleges under merit quota. The fees for merit seats is reasonable and fixed by the government.
