Introduction

The ‘National Means-Cum-Merit Scholarships’ is awarded to gifted or meritorious students whose parental income is not more than Rs. 1,50,000 PA from all sources. Every year nearly 10,00,00 scholarships are given each year by the Central Government to each of the state /UT according to the fixed quota to the group of students of Class VII and VIII. The scheme would provide reservation to different categories of students according to the State/UT norms. 

Funding

The ‘National Means Cum-Merit Scholarships’ scheme is 100% funded by the Department of Schools Education and Literacy, Government of India.  The State Governments and Union Territories Administrations shall send the proposals/ list of beneficiaries on-line on the Scholarship Portal. The Ministry will scrutinize the proposal and sanction funds from Annual Budget Provision for releasing them to SBI, the implementing bank for the scheme. The disbursal of scholarships to students is directly credited into their bank accounts by electronic transfer. 

Availability

Nearly 10,00,000 scholarships are awarded to the gifted or meritorious students whose parental income is not more than Rs. 1,50,000 PA from all sources.

Eligibility

  • The students should have a minimum of 55% marks or equivalent grade in Class VII examination for appearing in the selection test for award of scholarship (relax able by 5% for SC/ST students).
  • The students should be studying as regular students in a Government, Government-aided and local body school.
  • Each State Government and /Union Territory will conduct its own test for selection of students for the award of the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship. The State Level Examination may consist of the following two tests:

(1) Mental Ability Test (MAT)

(2) Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) 

  • The awardees should get a minimum of 55% marks in Class IX and XI and 60% in Class X for continuance of scholarship (relaxation by 5% for SC/ST candidates) in next higher classes.
  • SBI will ensure that the scholarship is paid to awardees in one go (Rs. 12000) immediately after getting the funds and the lists from the Ministry 

Mode of Application

  • Every implementing school may complete the exercise of identification of eligible girl child and preparation of proposal within 1 month of the commencement of the academic year.
  • The State/ UT Governments will prepare the consolidated proposal and send to the department of school Education and Literacy, Ministry of HRD, New Delhi within 3 months of the commencement of the academic year

Documents Required

  • The mark sheet that shows 55% of marks secured in the Class VII
  • The mark sheet that shows 60% of marks secured in CLass
  • Annual family Income Certificate for the preceding financial year in the prescribed format issued by not below the rank of Tahsildar
  • Certificate issued by the Director/Principal/Head of the Institute.
  • Tuition fee receipt.
  • AADHAR seeded Bank Pass Book in the name of the student indicating Account number, IFSC code and photograph
  • AADHAR Card
  • Declaration by parents duly signed stating that the information provided about their child is correct and that they will refund the scholarship amount, if found false at any stage
