The ‘Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship’ for college and university is awarded all the meritorious students with low-income families to meet their day-to-day expenses while pursuing their higher studies.
The ‘Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship’ is 100% funded by Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India
Every year 82000 fresh scholarships are awarded for all the meritorious students who have scored 80% in their SSLC or 10th class. About 41000 scholarships are provided for boys and about 41000 are scholarships are provided for girls for pursuing graduate / postgraduate studies in colleges and universities and for professional courses, such as Medical, Engineering etc.
The students who have scored 80% marks in the relevant stream from the respective Board of Examination in Class XII of 10+2 pattern or equivalent and pursuing regular courses (not correspondence or distance mode)
The students should pursue their higher studies in the colleges/Institutions that are recognized by All India Council of Technical Education, UGC, Medical Council of India, Dental Council of India and respective regulatory authorities.
The students should not be availing the benefit of any other scholarship scheme including State run scholarship schemes/Fee waiver and reimbursement scheme are eligible under the scheme.
Students pursuing Diploma courses are not eligible under the scheme.
Category – The students belonging to reserved categories/weaker sections /minorities are eligible on the basis of Merit, subject to Central Reservation Policy and internal earmarking. Reservations for the various categories are as follows:
1) Scheduled Castes (SCs) 15 %
2) Scheduled Tribes (STs) 7.5 %
3) Other Backward Class (OBCs) 27 %
4) Horizontally 5 % for Physically Handicapped/Persons(s) with Disabilities (PwDs) in all the categories.
The scholarship is awarded for a total duration not exceeding 5 years. The scholarship under this scheme is renewable every year up to postgraduate level in the same stream (except for the students pursuing technical courses leading to a degree at Graduation level).
The scheme is implemented through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). It is mandatory for all students to apply online on the website i.e. www.scholarships.gov.in.
