Karnataka is a home to numerous nursing and paramedical institutes, more than any other state in the country. Many students from different parts of the country and the world choose Karnataka for their nursing education. However, the previous government implemented a mandate that required nursing admission only through the common entrance test, causing significant practical difficulties for the candidates.

In response to the grievances raised by the Karnataka State Association of Management Nursing and Allied Health Science Institutions, Honourable Deputy Chief Minister, Sri D.K. Shivakumar, has recommended the Ministry of Medical Education and Skills Development to withdraw the previous government's notification regarding nursing admissions through the Common Entrance Test (CET). Sri. D K Shivakumar has highlighted the practical difficulties in implementing the notification, particularly its adverse impact on students from outside the state.
