KCET or Karnataka Common Entrance Test is conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) for various undergraduate professional courses like engineering technology, B.Pharma, D. Pharma, Agriculture and Veterinary Science courses offered by various educational institutes in Karnataka.

Previously KCET exam was conducted even for medical and dental seats but now it is replaced by NEET Exam. So, the KCET exam is conducted for professional courses other than medical and dental.

What is KEA?

The Government of Karnataka established a common Entrance Test Cell for conducting of entrance test and determining the eligibility/merit, for admission to different professional courses offered by all the colleges in Karnataka.

The KEA conducts common entrance exam for different professional courses such as engineering technology, B.Pharma, D. Pharma, Agriculture, Sericulture, Horticulture, Forestry, Agri Biotech, Home Science, Food Science and Technology, Agri Marketing, Pharmacy, Food Technology, Dairy Technology, Fisheries and Veterinary Science courses offered in Karnataka.

What is KCET?

The KCET Exam is a state level exam of Karnataka State for admissions to different courses such as 

  • B.Tech/BE
  • B.Sc Farm Science (Agriculture)
  • B.Sc (Sericulture)
  • B.Sc (Horticulture) 
  • B.Sc (Forestry)
  • B.Sc Agri BioTech 
  • B.HSc (Home Science) 
  • B.Tech (Agri Engg)
  • B.Tech (Food Technology) 
  • B.Tech (Dairy Tech)
  • B.FSc (Fisheries)
  • B.Tech (Food Science & Tech) 
  • B.Sc (Agri Marketing)
  • B.Pharm
  • Pharm-D 

The aspirants can get admissions for the above mentioned courses in all the colleges of Karnataka based on the scores of KCET Exam.

The KCET Exam consists of the following:

  • The questions will be asked from Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology
  • Each question carries one mark and paper will be of 60 marks
  • Total time for exam is 80 minutes and there is No Negative Marking for wrong answers
  • The mode of exam is offline (paper based)

Eligibility 

The students who have completed their PUC or 10+2 in any stream and who are interested to join professional courses offered by the colleges of Karnataka should apply for KCET exam.

Age Limit and No of Attempts for KCET Exam

The students appearing for KCET Exam should have completed a minimum 17 years of age at the time of admissions. The upper age limit is 25 years for General Category students and 30 years for OBC/SC/ST Category students. There is No restriction on the number of attempts for the KCET exam.

KCET Counselling.

The KCET counselling is conducted by KEA for allotting seats to the students in different professional courses based on merit. The students have to undergo KEA counselling to choose their colleges across Karnataka based on their rankings in KCET.

Conclusion

The KCET exam is the sole entrance exam for getting admissions to different professional courses offered by the colleges in Karnataka. All the colleges offering these courses should be recognised by the State Government and should follow the counselling procedures according to KEA Norms. The KCET exam is also mandatory for all the Non localite students interested to join different professional courses in Karnataka.

The KCET exam is considered as the basic parameter for all the aspirants to join their dream courses in different colleges of Karnataka.
