UGC orders: Award degrees within 180 days of result declaration

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has ordered all the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) to award degrees to all successful students within 180 days of eligibility.

The UGC in its letter to all vice-chancellors of universities and college principals stated that punitive action will be taken against universities that fail to award degrees in accordance with UGC regulations.

The decision was taken by UGC in the wake of receiving a large number of grievances/complaints/RTIs/questions regarding the delay in awarding degrees to students enrolled in various programmes of study offered by Higher Education Institutions (HEIs). From this academic year all the educational institutes under UGC are bound to declare the degrees within 180 days of the announcements of the results.
