The Supreme Court on Thursday 03-02-2022 dismissed the petition filed by the students who demanded the postponement of the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Exam (GATE) 2022 in wake of covid pandemic effects. The Hon’ble Supreme Court ordered that the GATE 2022 examination cannot be postponed and will be held as per the schedule on February 5th, 6th, 12th and 13th, 2022 in computer-based test (CBT) online mode.

The bench at the Hon’ble Supreme Court stated that the plea was filed only 48 hours of the schedule of the GATE exam 2022. The bench at the Hon'ble Supreme Court stated it is difficult to take any decision of postponement of the GATE Exam 2022 at this time juncture. The Hon'ble Supreme Court bench further stated that, this is the matter of academic policy and the court cannot enter in this area especially in the examination arena at this last hour.

The bench at the Hon'ble Supreme Court also stated that, it cannot put at risk the stakes of nearly nine lakh students appearing for GATE 2022 Exam, for a mere number of only 20,000 students who have signed an online petition for postponing the examination.

The bench at the Hon'ble Supreme Court quoted that the decision to reject the plea of GATE Exam 2022 was taken to address the greater good of the nine lakh GATE 2022 aspirants over the small number of petitioners.
