2.72 Cr Students Pursuing Higher Education through “Swayam” Portal

In the major development for the Indian education system, nearly 2.72 crore students are pursuing education through “SWAYAM” portal.  This is for the first time that in the first five months of the year, 2.72 crore students have registered themselves on the Central education ministry’s portal; nearly 40 % students are completing the online credit of their regular courses.

The union education ministry stated that the “SWAYAM” portal was launched with an aim to enhance knowledge in multi-disciplinary subjects other than traditional subjects. The “SWAYAM” portal has been developed keeping every section of society and every age group in mind. The portal has over 7,000 courses including science, research and marketing. Many students have enrolled for various courses and are completing it effectively.

The union ministry stated that the highest number of registrations on the portal was from the students of Tamil Nadu; Uttar Pradesh ranks second and Andhra Pradesh third; Jammu and Kashmir fourth and Chandigarh 24th.

The ministry officials further added that on the “SWAYAM” portal, study material and video lectures of all courses are available free of cost. If a student or professional wants a certificate, then he/she has to give the National Testing Agency examination based on multiple choice questions and they will be provided a certificate after they qualify in the exams.
