The Higher education minister State Government of Karnataka Dr. CN Ashwath Narayan on Thursday said that there’ll be no new government engineering colleges this year. The decision was taken due to the lack of demand for engineering courses from the students. Dr. Narayan Replied  to a question by BJP MLA Ramesh Bhusanur in the assembly seeking a government engineering college in Sindagi assembly constituency.

Dr. Narayan stated that there are no takers for courses especially in new colleges and in many colleges, seats are lying vacant. He further stated that nearly 75% seats are lying vacant in the government engineering colleges only in Vijayapura district and the situation is much worse in other districts

The minister further stated that as per the latest data available from Karnataka Examinations Authority, nearly about 23,000 seats in government and aided colleges are vacant for the 2022-23.

The minister further stated that the government will take further steps to develop the current government colleges and try to increase the number of students in the government engineering colleges from this academic year.
