The Karnataka government is likely to introduce the Hindu religious texts –  Bhagavad Gita, Ramayana and Mahabharata – in its school curriculum from the next academic year, in the field of ‘moral science.’ The Karnataka Education Minister B C Nagesh stated in the press release on tuesday, April 19 2022.

The minister further stated that introduction of these texts help the children increase their moral strength and moral fibre in the young minds. and Bhagavad Gita, could become a part of the moral science class. The minister further stated that there will be exams conducted for the moral science subjects.

The education minister also clarified that the title 'Mysuru Huli' (Lion of Mysuru) of the erstwhile ruler of Mysuru Kingdom Tipu Sultan will be retained in the textbooks along with these religious texts in the curriculum.
