The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras will launch 'Out of the Box Thinking' through Mathematics course. The course, which will be offered in online mode, will focus on teaching about multiple approaches to problem-solving and is open to everyone residing in India as well as in foreign countries.
Registrations will close on June 24, 2022 and the first batch of the course is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2022. Those interested students are required to apply on the official website before June 24, 2022.
Prof V Kamakoti, Director IIT Madras stated that the new mathematics courses will be offered in online mode free of cost through IIT Madras Pravartak Technologies Foundation of IIT Madras. The institute will also issue grade certifications for students who take the examinations at a nominal fee. The final examination will be a proctored one conducted at centres in select cities across India, informed the institute.
He further added that the Institute is targeting as many as one million schools and colleges students, besides working professionals and researchers through this course across the country. The four graded independent levels of the courses will be easily accessible to students, professionals and researchers.
He further stated that this course is first-of-its-kind in India and will make a major impact in the days to come. The benefits of this course will be visible in the next few years. The course is being offered free of cost and it will greatly benefit the School and College students, especially those residing in rural India.
Further, Prof. Kamakoti stated that the “Out of the box” thinking is to solve the problems through an indirect and creative approach which is the core of this course. The course emphasises on rediscovering the known and unknown facts of mathematics logically. He further added that the course will present multiple approaches to problem solving, debunking a myth that problem solving is only for a select few. It will introduce new techniques in an easy-to-understand fashion, preparing users to face real-life projects with confidence and ease.
He further added that Prof Sadagopan Rajesh, Mathematics Educator and founder-director of Aryabhata Institute of Mathematical Sciences, will be the main faculty for this course.
