The Hon'ble Supreme Court bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Surya Kant has recently asked the MCC about the scenario for NRI quota for NEET-PG aspirants.

The order has come from the Hon'ble Supreme Court after a doctor moved to the Apex Court and sought permission to register for NEET-PG 2021 counselling as NRI quota candidate. The MCC had replied for the fresh registration for the mop-up round of counselling; there is no separate provision for the NRI quota candidates.

The Advocate Charu Mathur representing the petitioner informed the court that despite the NRI candidate having submitted her documents on time specified by the MCC at the appropriate email ID it has not been accepted by the MCC authorities.

The advocate further mentioned to the Hon'ble Supreme Court that all the documents of the petitioner were in accordance with the Top Court's order dated August 22, 2017 in Consortium of Deemed universities in Karnataka (CODEUNIK) and still MCC authorities have not taken into consideration. The advocate further stated to the Hon'ble Supreme Court that the petitioner was not even given time to submit the NRI documents. The advocate further stated that the emails sent from the petitioner had not been responded to by the MCC authorities.

Responding to the submissions, the top court bench directed the counsel for the MCC to file a short affidavit stating that the court will not be issuing any legal notice right now. Instead the Hon'ble Supreme Court has asked MCC to give the information to the Hon'ble Supreme Court about NRI quota at the earliest.
