The Union Education Ministry is expected to appoint a new UGC chairperson within next month. The ministry has further stated that the newly appointed chairperson for UGC is responsible for smooth implementation of NEP 2020 across the country. The tenure of the current chairman will be ending by December 1st week. The new chairperson will be appointed before the last week of December according to the ministry officials.
The Union Ministry of Education stated that the government wants to implement NEP 2020 strictly adhering to the guidelines and deadlines and is completely assertive in smooth implementation of NEP 2020 across the country. To achieve this massive goal the government is taking care of all the required elements that can help us to overcome the challenges of NEP 2020 implementation and this is one of the steps in this process.
The new National Education Policy 2020 (NEP) , revealed by the central government, seeks to introduce and implement a sea of changes across all levels of education in India. The NEP also seeks to implement changes in the way that facilitators of such education- schools, colleges and teachers are trained and how they approach education.
The NEP 2020 policy aims to reform the complete Indian Education System according to the latest international standards and also tries to seek a change in the landscape of Indian Learning. The NEP 2020 aims to reduce the curriculum content to its core essentials focussing on key concepts and ideas in order that children are able to practice more critical thinking and among others more analysis-based learning approach. The NEP 2020 also focuses on promoting regional language education with a multi-lingual approach for all the students across the country.
According to the Ministry of Education, some standards have been set for the appointment of the new chairman and some of the norms and preferences are formulated for the post that is essential for the NEP 2020 implementation. The chairperson will be selected based on his/her experience and having a global exposure to the innovation in the educational sector. The Selection Committee appointed by the Ministry of the Union Education is responsible to select the chairperson for the top post of UGC.
