Foreign Indian Students who are Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) do not need to attend the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2023 for admission to the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

They are eligible to appear directly for the JEE Advanced 2023 exam as per the new regulation, which only applies to the international students, OCI and PIO students, even those enrolled in Indian universities, are now eligible to appear for the JEE Advanced 2023.

IIT Guwahati brochure states that the foreign national students who have completed 10+2 level or equivalent in India or abroad at the time of registration for JEE (Advanced) 2023 need not write JEE (Main) 2023 and may register for JEE (Advanced) 2023 directly if eligibility requirements are fulfilled.

Adding to the 2,50,000 Indian national applicants who are eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2023, all foreign national candidates are taken into consideration. With the implementation of this new rule, OCI or PIO students can enrol in IITs through the 10% supernumerary seats designated for foreign nationals rather than through the regular allocation of seats for Indian students.
