On 30-01-2023, Boeing’s India president Salil Gupte announced the new 200 million $ campus to be functional by the end of 2023. The new campus spread will be across a 43-acres site in Devanahalli and it will be one of Boeing’s largest centres outside its headquarters in Virginia. The Boeing India campus will be located at Aerospace park in Devanahalli near the Kempegowda International Airport. The project was cleared by H.D. Kumaraswamy’s government in September 2018 within months after coming to power.
The report confirms that this new facility will be heavily involved in research on eVTOLs (electric, vertical, takeoff and landing) vehicles and achieving Boeing's sustainability goal of hitting net zero emissions by the year 2050. Boeing has historically focused its facilities within the US and has planned to set up the campus in India which marks Boeing’s importance as a prime commercial and defence market for the aircraft maker, which is expected to gain more traction and market share in the future years.
Elsherbini views that the new campus will be state-of-the-art and will house a lot of their existing labs. But the amount of lab space will be increased allowing people the opportunity to do more engineering work. He added that the centre here has become an integral part of the global engineering fabric of the company. All commercial platforms, most of the defence platforms and the space platforms are being worked on directly from India.
After the completion of the project, the new campus is expected to generate around 3,000 jobs. The company has operations across the country with field service offices in Mumbai, Hindan, Rajali, and New Delhi will henceforth have their main branch at Devanahalli. With a manpower of over 4,000 employees, Boeing India is a prime player in the country's aerospace and defence sector.
