Bangalore University introduces 4-years degree courses under New Education Policy 2020 for the academic year 2021-22.

Bangalore University in Karnataka, becomes first in the country to introduce new 4-years degree courses under New Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020). The Vice Chancellor of Bangalore University Prof Venugopal stated that the university is starting 4-years Bachelor of Arts BA (Hons) and Bachelor of Science Honours B.Sc (Hons) degree courses from the academic year 2021-22 under NEP 2020 initiatives. He also stated that as per the NEP recommendations the 4-years BA (Hons) and B.Sc (Hons) courses offer multiple exit points at various stages according to the recommendations of NEP.

The 4-years provide the students with multiple exit points such that:

  • They can exit at first year to avail themselves of a certificate in Arts/Science, 

  • They can exit at the second year, they will get a diploma 

  • They can exit at the third year, they will get a degree 

  • If they successfully complete four years, they will get a BA/B.Sc Honours degree.

He also stated that these 4-years courses are skill-based, choice-based and cross-disciplinary, trans-disciplinary and multidisciplinary in nature that is designed to provide the students the option of electives across the disciplines as per the objectives of the new NEP recommendations.

The students have the provision to continue their education to post-graduation after the completion of a three-years degree. The students may pursue specialisation in a particular subject or can study research for one year.
