AICTE bans colleges/institutions offering MBA and PGDM programs

No more offering of MBA and PGDM programs simultaneously in any institution in India-AICTE.

Primarily AICTE (All India Council for Technical Education) initiated the PGDM courses to be offered only by the institutions which were neither universities nor affiliated to any university.

But over a period of time, many central, state and private universities and deemed-to-be-universities have started to add the PGDM courses along with the MBA under the tag name of management program which is considered against AICTE norms.

So in this context, the AICTE has issued a notice stating that as per the provisions contained in AICTE regulations, 2020, and para 2.18 of APH 2020-21, conducting an MBA and PGDM program in the standalone institution is not permissible from now onwards.

The immediate action has been taken by AICTE to reduce/eliminate the confusion caused by many institutions which ultimately created a sort of difficulties among students while selecting career options in the management sector.

In addition to the notice, the technical education regulator has also directed all the universities including institutions, deemed-to-be-universities, and the state universities to submit proposals for conversion of the PGDM programs into an MBA or vice versa to offer just one of the two programs.
