MD Paediatrics (Doctor of Medicine in Paediatrics)
The MBBS Students who join the Paediatrics specialisation are typically known as MD Paediatric doctors. As a MD Paediatric doctor, one is responsible to keep the children healthy by regularly checking their growth and development. They help prevent diseases in children by giving the vaccinations and general health advice. Paediatrician is one who works as a primary care physician to provide treatment for the growing children. They are also required to diagnose and treat a wide range of general health conditions, give vaccinations and offer appropriate health advice to young children and their parents or caregivers.
The Paediatricians are doctors who basically handle medical conditions affecting infants, children and young people. They can be divided into 4 main areas they are:
General Paediatrics: They usually work in hospitals and are responsible to cover all the treatments for the children from age 6 to 16. Many of them work in generalist role in hospitals
Neonatology: They are specialised doctors who look after the newly born babies. They typically work in neonatal intensive care units of hospitals where the premature babies are treated.
Community Paediatrics: They are the doctors who are based in the community and look after the children with developmental, social or behavioural problems and those with physical disability. They are required to provide proper treatments to children in the communities.
Paediatric Cardiology: This is a specialised paediatric area where the doctors usually diagnose and treat children suffering from cardiac conditions
