M Pharm Pharmacognosy (Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacognosy)
The course emphasizes on the technical and practical aspects of medicines derived from natural sources and theor interaction with living organisms. It is an interdisciplinary subject involving the application of chemistry, biology and technology in understanding the physical, chemical, sensory and biological effects of pharmaceutical compounds on biochemical functions, processes and living systems. The origin, structure, reactions, cultivation, manufacture, storage and application of these natural substances are also emphasized. Topics included in the course are cultivation of medicinal plants analytical techniques, drug standardization, phytochemistry, biogenesis and biotechnology. Candidates will have diverse knowledge about the preparation of medicines, laboratory testing and research of novel medications and methods of analysis of different natural drugs. Skills like analytical reasoning, presentation, computers, decision-making, problem-solving and entrepreneurship are enhanced through dissertations, projects, internships, laboratory analysis and viva voce included in this course.
