The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is the regulatory body that oversees pharmacy education in India. Only institutions authorised by the PCI in accordance with Section 12(1) of the Pharmacy Act, 1948 are permitted to provide pharmacy programmes.

Pharmacy Council of India under Central government and State Pharmacy Council under State Governments are the sole governing bodies that have the power to grant D.Pharma diploma for the students. The colleges have to be recognised under these associations in order to grant the D.Pharma diploma for students.

Almost all the colleges will have reserved merit seats, so that the students can apply for them. The students seeking admission under merit quota are required to complete the merit admission process for confirming admissions under merit-quota

40% marks in PUC/10+2 or equivalent in science stream with PCB/M (physics, chemistry, and biology/mathematics) subjects and English as one of the subject. The applicant should have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission.
