What is the NEET UG Exam?

The NEET UG Exam national level common entrance exam is conducted by NTA for providing admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BHMS courses in the medical and dental colleges across India.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts the NEET UG exam every year for all the students aspiring to flourish in their careers as doctors. The candidates who qualify the NEET UG Exam have to undergo counselling to choose their seats and get admission to the medical colleges according to their rankings.

Who can apply for the NEET Exam?

The NEET exam is for the students who are interested to join MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS, BSMS, BHMS courses after completing their PUC or 10+2. The aspiring students are required to qualify the NEET exam for getting admission to these courses across India and Abroad.

Eligibility to apply for NEET

  • The students should have passed their PUC or Class 12th in science stream with PCMB/PCB/CBZ subjects from recognised board are eligible to apply for NEET-UG exam
  • The students should have completed minimum of 17 years of age as on 31st December of the year of which admission is sought

Courses Available for NEET Qualified Students in Medical Field 

Students who have qualified NEET Exam can join the following courses in the medical sciences, they are:

MBBS: The MBBS degree allows the students to pursue a career in the doctor’s field. After the completion of the 4.5-years course, the students should mandatorily undergo 1-year internship (house surgeon ship) in the field of surgery, medicines and hospitals to become eligible and certified doctors.

Doctor: The Doctors, also known as physicians, are licensed health professionals who maintain and restore human health through the practice of medicine

Average Salary 5 Lakhs to 10 Lakhs PA

General Physician: The general physicians are responsible to diagnose and treat common maladies such as diabetes, allergies, eczema, and high cholesterol. The general physicians will work in hospitals, clinics and sometimes they even operate independently or in medical centres.

Average Salary 4 Lakhs to 8 Lakhs PA

BDS: The Bachelor of Dental Science (BDS) is a 5-years undergraduate course including 1-year Mandatory internship, the course deals with the study of dental systems in the human body. The BDS course is for students who are interested in becoming professional dentists. The BDS course is the most popular course pursued after MBBS by biology students.

Dentist: The Dentists diagnose and treat dental issues and help patients develop better oral hygiene regimens.

BAMS: The Bachelor of Ayurvedic Medicine and Surgery (BAMS) is a 5.5-years  long graduate degree with 1-year Internship, the course covers the study of the integrated system of modern medicine and traditional Ayurveda. The main aim of the course is to provide students with the basic education in Ayurveda and its related fields.

Ayurvedic Doctor: The Ayurvedic Doctors understand disease from an Ayurvedic perspective, while possessing a working knowledge of Western medical pathology, pharmacology, diagnostic reports, and treatments, in order to interface with the Western medical community and modify the Ayurvedic management of cases accordingly.

Ayurvedic  Physician: The Ayurvedic physician diagnose the diseases and prescribe ayurvedic treatments for the patients by prescribing them with ayurvedic medicines

Average Salary 4 Lakhs to 6 Lakhs PA

BHMS: The Bachelor of Homoeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS) is an undergraduate programme that covers in-depth medical knowledge of the homoeopathic system. The course is 5.5-years duration including 1-year internship. The main aim of the course is to cover the theoretical and practical knowledge of the homoeopathic system.

Homoeopathic Practitioner:  The homoeopathic practitioner is the homoeopathic consultant who prescribes homoeopathic treatments and homoeopathic medicines

Average Salary 4 Lakhs to 6 Lakhs PA

Homoeopathic Physician: The homoeopathic physicians are responsible to treat patients with homoeopathic medicines and homoeopathic treatments.

Career Prospects for Non-NEET Qualified students

There are ample career opportunities even for the students who have not qualified NEET Exam, some of the important career opportunities are:

BNYS: The Bachelor of Naturopathy & Yogic Science (BNYS) is a 5.5 years course that can be joined after the completion of PUC or 12th class. The course mainly trains the students with all the elements of naturopathy & yogic sciences. The students will be given in-depth understanding of traditional medicine and traditional methods of treatments for various diseases.

Naturopathic Doctor: The naturopathic doctor treats the patients with the naturopathy treatments and prescribes naturopathic and ayurvedic medicines

Average Salary 3 Lakhs to 6 Lakhs PA

Ayurvedic Health Consultant: The Ayurvedic health consultant prescribes ideal treatments for maintaining normal health. They prescribe ayurvedic and naturopathic medicines.

Average Salary 5 Lakhs to 6 Lakhs PA

BPT: The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) is a 4-years undergraduate course that is divided into 8-semesters and it includes a mandatory six months of clinical internship. The course revolves around the science of physical movement aimed at preventing disease and disability. 

Physiotherapist: The physiotherapist uses techniques of physiotherapy to treat patients with motion disability and physical ailments. The physiotherapists are responsible to prescribe exercises for normal physical health.

Sports Therapist: The sport therapists are responsible to maintain physical endurance in the sports personalities. They ensure to prescribe proper physiotherapy treatments maintaining excellent stamina in the sports personalities

Average Salary 6 Lakhs to 10 Lakhs PA

B.Pharm: The Bachelor of Pharmacy or B.Pharma is a job-oriented undergraduate degree for science students who are looking for careers in the pharmacy sector. The B.Pharm course duration is 4-years and is divided into 8 semesters. The main aim of the course is to train the students about the various drugs and their formulations.

Pharmacist: The Pharmacist is responsible to dispense and distribute the medicines. A community pharmacist will work with legal and ethical guidelines to ensure the correct and safe supply of medical products to the general public.

Pharmacologist: The pharmacologist is responsible to understand how medicines and other drugs work and how it is processed by the body. They are required to investigate how the drugs interact with biological systems.

Allied Health Sciences: Allied Health Science is a term used to describe the broad range of health professionals who are not doctors, dentists or nurses but still can build their careers in the medical field. The main aim of allied health professionals is to prevent, diagnose and treat a range of conditions and illnesses and often work within a multidisciplinary health team to provide the best patient outcomes.

Perfusion Technologist: These professionals will assist in the surgical procedures of the heart and lungs. They are responsible for restoring the patient’s respiratory and circulatory capacities in complex surgeries.

Renal Technician: The renal technician is responsible for providing dialysis treatments for kidney failure patients.

Medical Lab Technician: The Medical lab technicians work with integrated systems and perform the diagnostic tests in the medical laboratories

B.Sc Life Sciences: The B.Sc Life Sciences course is a 3-years  Bachelor's degree that basically deals with the study of different life forms by using scientific techniques to study aquatic and terrestrial organisms, flora and fauna, including human beings. The course trains the students to gain insights into the distinctions of life sciences and position themselves in excellent career roles.

Biotechnologist: The biotechnologists study the biological and chemical properties of living things and biological processes such as cell development, cell growth, heredity and diseases

Average Salary 6 Lakhs to 12 Lakhs PA

Microbiologist: The Microbiologists are responsible to study the physiological, biochemical and genetic aspects along with the growth characteristics of microorganisms like viruses, bacteria, fungi and parasites.

B.Tech/BE: The Bachelor of Technology/Bachelor of Engineering (B.Tech/BE) is one of the most sought out degrees in India. It is an undergraduate degree of 4-years that is divided into 8 semesters. The course is considered as the skill-oriented course that is designed to develop the practical skills of the students. The course curriculum is designed to give maximum exposure to the terms of industry with application.

Software Engineer: Software Engineers are professionals who are concerned with the facets of the software development process that involves activities like design and coding, computer programming, project management etc.=

Average Salary 5 Lakhs to 12 Lakhs PA

Civil Engineer: The civil engineer manages, supervises, designs, develops and manages projects toi construct or repair buildings, bridges, highways and other structures

Average Salary 6 Lakhs to 15 Lakhs PA

Architect: The Architects plan, develop and implement building designs. They compile feasibility reports, determine environmental impact, create project proposals, estimate costs, determine timelines and oversee construction processes.

Average Salary 7 Lakhs to 14 Lakhs PA

Chemical Engineer: The Chemical Engineers are responsible to ensure that all work is done according to expectations. They are responsible to monitor safety concerns such as chemical leakage while working in a chemical industry.

Average Salary 8 Lakhs to 12 Lakhs PA

There are enormous opportunities available for both NEET and non-NEET qualified students, in both the cases the students can dream to aspire to pursue their career in medical fields. The students are not required to be depressed if they are not able to qualify for the NEET Exam. Even without NEET Exam qualification one can have excellent career growth with handsome salaries.
