The diploma is renal dialysis students can find ample job opportunities in the healthcare sector. There are a good number of job roles available after diploma. The present article tries to explain some of the few important job roles available after diploma in renal dialysis course.

Dialysis Therapist

The dialysis therapist is responsible for providing dialysis treatments for kidney failure patients. They are trained to give dialysis therapy to the patients.

Role of Dialysis Therapist

As a dialysis therapist one is responsible to attach the dialysis equipment to the patients and constantly monitor the readings and react quickly in case of any emergency during the process.

Responsibilities of a Dialysis Therapist

As a dialysis therapist one is responsible to:

  • To analyse the condition of the patients and adjust the machine accordingly
  • To perform various procedures like tubing, attachment of the dialyser to the patients, assembly of the dialysis apparatus for dialysis
  • To note down the readings and also keep an eye on vital organs and parameters
  • Assembling the dialysis machine and ensuring its proper performance
  • Monitoring patients undergoing dialysis treatment
  • Ensuring usage of the dialysis machine is safe and secure
  • Administering local anaesthesia
  • Talking to patients throughout the dialysis process
  • Monitoring and adjusting patient’s fluid removal rates as required
  • Working in tandem with nurses and doctors
  • Ensuring sterilisation of operating equipments before use
  • Responding to emergency scenarios
  • Attending to patient’s needs
  • Understanding patient’s physical and emotional concerns
  • Educating patients on health maintenance and care
  • Developing operational training material to staff

Salary and Emoluments

The fresh diploma students will earn around 2 lakhs to 3 lakhs per annum as a dialysis therapist. The experienced professionals will be earning around 3 lakhs to 4 lakhs per annum. The salary depends upon location and recruiters.  

Clinical Coordinator

The clinical coordinators are responsible to organise and manage the labs under the guidance of senior managers

Role of the Clinical Coordinator

As a clinical coordinator one is responsible to oversee daily activities in a healthcare facility and ensure that all the activities are smoothly executed.

Responsibilities of a Clinical Coordinator

As a clinical coordinator one is responsible to:

  • To organise and oversee the administrative aspects of the health services in the hospitals. 
  • To coordinate with the kidney failure patients and concerned dialysis technologists for timely treatments and procedures in hospitals and nursing homes
  • They are required to work in hospitals, clinics and other patient care environments
  • Perform all duties within regulations
  • Implement policy and procedures across the healthcare facility
  • Evaluate personnel and prepare daily reports
  • Assist with recruitment, consenting, screening and enrollment of personnel
  • Employ financial acumen in budgeting and expenditure
  • Authorise admissions treatment as per agreed protocols
  • Ensure that stock levels are adequate and orders are placed on time
  • Communicate medical results to patients under clinical supervision
  • Sterilize instruments according to regulations
  • Compare timely and accurate documentation of patient visits

Salary and Emoluments

The fresh diploma students will earn around 1.5 lakhs to 3 lakhs per annum as clinical coordinator. The experienced professionals will be earning around 3 lakhs to 4.5 lakhs per annum. The salary depends upon location and recruiters.  

Medical Technician

The medical technicians perform all the laboratory procedures in the clinical and diagnostic labs.

Role of Medical Technician

The medical technicians are required to perform all the lab related activities like lab supervision, lab sterilisation, and have the record of all the stocks of the labs.

Responsibilities of a Medical Technician   

As a medical technician one is responsible to:

  • To perform testing of samples, recording the readings. 
  • To provide the proper lab results on which the physicians decide to give treatments to the patients
  • Collect and prepare blood, urine and tissue samples for analysis
  • Examine collected samples and identify any cell abnormalities
  • Maintain laboratory inventory levels and if necessary, place orders for new samples
  • Prepare detailed reports about the test results and findings
  • Document and review tested data
  • Ensure all tissue samples are prepared for examination
  • Collaborate with pathologist and other medical specialists to determine correct diagnosis, if cell abnormalities are discovered
  • Maintain safe and clean working environment by adhering to safety procedures and regulations
  • Present lab results to physicians, researchers or patients

Salary and Emoluments

The fresh diploma students will earn around 2.5 lakhs to 3.5 lakhs per annum as a medical technician. The experienced professionals will be earning around 3.5 lakhs to 4.5 lakhs per annum. The salary depends upon location and recruiters.

Dialysis Technician

The dialysis technicians will be recording the results and generating reports of the complete dialysis process in a lab setup

Role of a Dialysis Technician

The dialysis technician is responsible to operate the dialysis machine. They perform all the tasks like tubing, attaching the dialyser to the patients, check the blood sugar levels during the dialysis procedure.
