The hospitality management sector is one of the important sectors that is witnessing a steady growth in the past 5 to 10 years. The reason for this growth is due to the increased number of people opting for leisure trips to national and international destinations. The field offers good growth for the skilled professionals.

Accommodation Manager

As an accommodation manager one is responsible to efficiently run an establishment so that it meets all the needs of the tenants, guests or residents. He/she is responsible to keep the guests and tenants happy during their stay.

Role of the Accommodation Manager

As an accommodation manager one is required to take care of the tenants, guests in an establishment during their stay. They are responsible to ensure all the standards of cleanliness and maintenance are upheld in an establishment.

Responsibilities of an Accommodation Manager

As an accommodation manager one is needed to:

  • Ensure the smooth running of accommodation facilities, including the safety and well being of the guests, tenants and residents
  • Develop and build positive relationships with residents, tenants and guests
  • Control a budget and finances, manage stock levels and order supplies
  • Communicate with reception services to coordinate and plan the allocation of accommodation
  • Coordinate with other departments within organisation such as catering, for conferences and relevant external agencies
  • Arrange repairs and maintenance of the facilities
  • Inspect the accommodation to ensure that hygiene and health and safety regulations are met
  • Carry out risk assessments as necessary
  • Supervise the work of cleaning staff and ensure standards are maintained
  • Make sure adequate security for the building is provided
  • Get involved in the building and refurbishment of residential accommodation
  • Be updated with latest knowledge about the rules and regulations related to accommodation

Earning Potential

The fresh BHM graduate will be easily earning around 3 lakhs to 5 lakhs per annum as an accommodation manager. The experienced senior professionals will be easily earning around 4 lakhs to 6 lakhs per annum.

Catering Manager

As a catering manager one is responsible to plan, organise the food services to the organisations and businesses by meeting the customer expectations. He/she is responsible to ensure that the food served should meet all the requirements of the customer.

Role of a Catering Manager

As a catering manager one is responsible to provide food services to the customers in an organisation. Basically, their role is to prepare the food and ensure that it is safely delivered to the customer. They are required to prepare the food according to the requirement of the customer and ensure that the food is tasty and healthy.

Responsibilities of a Catering Manager

As a catering manager one is needed to:

  • Manage the food and beverage provision for functions and events
  • Supervises the catering and waiting staff at functions
  • Plan menus in consultation with chefs
  • Recruit and train permanent and casual staff
  • Organise, lead and motivate the catering team
  • Plan staff shifts and rotas
  • Ensure health and safety regulations are strictly observed
  • Budget and establish financial targets and forecasts
  • Monitor the quality of the product and service provided
  • Keep financial and administrative records
  • Manage the payroll a monitor spending levels
  • Maintain stock levels and order new supplies as required

Being a Chef is one of the most satisfying careers for all the cooking lovers. The chefs are responsible for cooking delicious food and make everyone’s appetite satisfied. The chefs are known for their creative skills that they use to show in their cooking styles.

Role of a Chef

Chefs work in a variety of settings to prepare, cook and plate food. As a chef one can work in fast-food restaurants, pubs, hotels, cruise ships, catering facilities etc. The responsibilities and job titles can vary depending on specific roles and type of cuisine that they prepare.

Responsibilities of a Chef

As a Chef one is needed to:

  • Get grips with the fundamentals of cooking such as knife skills. This may involve the basic cuts like dicing, chopping, julienne and chiffonade etc and also required to know about handling of the ingredients correctly
  • Work in different sections of kitchen, helping other chefs
  • Be responsible for food preparation and basic cooking and also learn about portion sizes
  • Follow the instructions and work as a part of team
  • Prepare, cook and assemble dishes and make sure that they are served on time
  • Be in-charge of a specific section of the kitchen such as sauces, fish or pastry etc. It is essential to have a sound knowledge of cooking
  • Assist the head chef in developing menus
  • Delegate responsibilities to assistant chefs and divide the work among them

The fresh BHM graduate will be easily earning around 5 lakhs to 7 lakhs per annum as a chef. The experienced senior professionals will be easily earning around 7 lakhs to 9 lakhs per annum.

Air Cabin Crew

As an air cabin crew, one is responsible to ensure that the guests on the aircrafts enjoy a pleasant flying experience by providing them excellent services during the flights.

Role of an Air Cabin Crew

As an air cabin crew, one is responsible to provide excellent customer service to passengers while ensuring their comfort and safety throughout the flight. They are required to serve refreshments and meals and sell gifts and duty-free items in the flights.

Responsibilities of an Air Cabin Crew

As an air cabin crew, one is responsible to:

  • Be professional, punctual and courteous at all times
  • Attend a pre-flight briefing, during which you will be assigned your working positions for the upcoming flights.
  • The air cabin crew are informed of flight details, the schedule, the number of infants on board and if there are any special requirements, such as diabetic passengers or passengers with wheelchairs.
  • Carry out pre-flight duties, including checking of safety equipment and doing security checks, ensuring the aircraft is clean and tidy and that information in the seat pockets is up to date and all meals, drinks and stock are on board
  • Welcome passengers on board and direct them to their seats
  • Inform passengers of the aircraft about safety procedures and ensure that all hand luggage is securing stored away
  • Check all seat belts and galleys are secure prior to take off
  • Make announcements on behalf of the pilot and answer questions during the flight
  • Serve meals and refreshments
  • Sell duty-free goods and advice passengers on any allowance restrictions in force at their destinations
  • Reassure passengers and ensure they follow safety procedures, correctly in emergency situations
  • Deal with any difficult inebriated passengers politely but firmly to ensure the safety and comfort of everyone on the flight
  • Give first aid when necessary
  • Ensure passengers disembark safely at the end of flight and check that there is no luggage left in the overhead lockers and no stowaways or suspicious items on board
  • Complete paperwork, including writing a flight report
