As an analytical chemist one will use a range of methods to investigate the chemical composition of the substances. The main aim of an analytical chemist is to identify and understand the substance and how it behaves in different conditions.

4. Pharmacologist

As a Pharmacologist one is expected to understand how medicines and other drugs work and how they are reprocessed by the body so that they can be used effectively and safely

As a pharmacologist one is responsible to investigate how drugs interact with biological systems. They are required to carry out in vitro research or in vivo research to predict the effect of certain drugs that might have on humans

As a Pharmacologist one will need to:

  • Design, plan and conduct controlled experiments or clinical trials to improve understanding of the drug’s activity
  • Use computers, high technology measuring systems and other sophisticated equipment to collect, analyse and interpret data

5. Scientific Laboratory Technician

A Scientific Laboratory technician is responsible to support scientific analysis, investigation, research and development activities in the organisations.

As a Scientific Laboratory Technician, one is required to carry out the work that allows scientists to concentrate and perform more complex analytical processes in the laboratory. As a scientific laboratory technician, one will be involved in a variety of laboratory-based investigations within biological, chemical, physical and life science areas. This can include sampling, testing, measuring, recording and analysing results as a part of a scientific team.

As a Scientific Laboratory Technician, one is required to:

  • Perform laboratory tests in order to produce reliable results and precise data to support scientific investigations

  • Prepare specimens and samples
  • Construct, maintain and operate standard laboratory equipment, like centrifuges, titrators, pipetting machines and pH meters
