Data Science is a concept that unifies statistics, data analysis, machine learning, domain knowledge and related methods to understand and analyse actual phenomena of an event. Basically, data science is an interdisciplinary subject that focuses mainly on extraction of data from data sets which are typically large.
Few Lines about M.Sc Data Science
M.Sc Data science is a postgraduate course that was recently launched by different universities in India and abroad. The course duration is 2-years and it is divided into 4 semesters. The course is designed in a manner that it covers all the aspects of data science in detail. The course gives a detailed insight of theory and practical knowledge of different aspects of data science such as Big data analytics, Business analytics, real-time processing, neural networks, artificial intelligence and machine learning.
The main focus of the course is to equip students with principal concepts of data science and application in real-time processing functions and applications. The course enables the students to have hands-on experience on data science techniques from various factors like case studies, presentations, internships and interaction with industry experts and makes them highly competitive and employable.
Eligibility Criteria
- The students should have passed PUC or 10+2 with any three as core subjects among physics, chemistry, mathematics, statistics, computer science, electronics from recognised board
- The students should have passed their graduation with computer science or statistics with 50% aggregate from recognised university
Admission Procedures
The admission to M.Sc Data Science is done by two modes (1) Merit Admissions (2) Direct Admissions under Management.

1. Merit Admissions
As the name indicates this mode of admission is based on merit. There are certain institutes that judge the merit and capacity of students by conducting entrance exams. The students can apply for institution-based entrance exams for getting admission to limited merit seats. The main aim of the entrance exam is to filter out the serious aspirants from the non-serious candidates. Since, there are limited merit seats, these exams play a crucial role in selection of deserving candidates for the course. The fees are also less for merit seats.
