What is Dental Science?
Dentistry, the profession concerned with the prevention and treatment of oral diseases, including diseases of the teeth and supporting structures and diseases of the soft tissues of the mouth and oral cavity. Dentistry also encompasses the treatment and correction of malformation of the jaws, misalignment of the teeth and birth anomalies of the oral cavity, such as cleft palate.
The dentistry also includes general practice and also includes many specialities and subspecialties, including orthodontics and dental orthopaedics, paediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral and maxillofacial pathology and maxillofacial surgery etc.
Introduction to MDS Course
MDS is a postgraduate course in different disciplines of dentistry. The course imparts the knowledge and skills to solve these dental and oral health problems that are faced by most of the human population. The course fosters the development of critical analysis, research skills and advanced clinical skills as a part of the MDS courses.
The course trains the students in advanced techniques and methods penetrating to dental care and solutions. The course gives a detailed understanding of the oral treatment and oral healthcare and also trains the students to carry out oral surgeries.
Eligibility for MDS
The basic eligibility for the MDS is that the students should have completed the BDS degree with 50% aggregate from the dental college/institute that is recognised by Dental Council of India (DCI) for admission to MDS course. The aspiring BDS students should have mandatorily completed their internship in their BDS course before getting admission to MDS course. The students can apply for the various specialities available in the MDS after the completion of BDS
The students should apply and qualify the NEET-PG exam to get admission to MDS programmes
Admission Process
The students who are interested to join the MDS postgraduate degrees should mandatorily clear the NEET-PG exams and undergo counselling to choose their desired colleges for merit seats. The dental college merit seats are allotted to the students according to their rankings and marks obtained by them in their BDS degrees.
