What is Zoology?

Zoology is the study of animals and is a complex discipline that draws upon a diverse body of scientific observation and theory. It can be broken down into numerous sub-disciplines such as Ornithology, primatology, ichthyology and entomology to name a few. As a whole, zoology encompasses a fascinating and important body of knowledge that enables us to understand animals better, wildlife, our environment and ourselves.

Zoology like all areas of science is shaped by the scientific method. The scientific method is a series of steps that scientists take in order to acquire, tests and characterise the natural world is the process by which zoologists study animals.

Few lines about B.Sc Zoology

B.Sc Zoology is the professional 3- year undergraduate degree that is divided into 6 semesters. The course essentially revolves around the comprehensive study of animal biodiversity, physiology, biochemistry, cell and molecular biology, biotechnology, ecology and environment management. The zoology has emerged as one of the most sought-after degrees in India and abroad in terms of personal growth and career opportunities.

The course provides various career growth opportunities and promotes the growth in knowledge one has already acquired. The course also imparts an in-depth knowledge about the various aspects of subjects like animal physiology, biochemistry, genetics & genomics, biodiversity. The course also opens up various career opportunities in front of students. The course trains the students to either find themselves working in the respective field or gives advice to join the master’s course in the respective area of study.

Eligibility for B.Sc Zoology

The students who have passed their PUC or 10+2 with PCB or CBZ combinations from recognised board are eligible to apply for B.Sc Zoology course.

Admission Procedures

The interested students can join B.Sc Zoology by two modes of admission. They are:

1. Merit Admission
2. Direct Admission

1. Merit Admission

Many top and reputed colleges conduct institution-based entrance exams for admission to B.Sc Zoology, such mode of admission is called merit admission process. Under this mode of admission, the students are required to qualify the entrance exams in order to get merit seats. As the merit seats are limited, the competition is high in this mode due to the increased number of aspirants. The main idea to conduct entrance exams is to select the hardworking and serious candidates from the flock of non-serious ones. The qualified students are allotted merit seats and the fees is nominal for merit seats.

2. Direct Admission

The second mode of admission is called direct admission. Under this mode the students can get direct admission to their desired colleges under management quota. The main advantage of this mode is that the students are not required to apply for any institution-based entrance exams. They have the option to choose their desired colleges and book their confirmed seats even before the commencement of the academic year.
