What is Homeopathy?

Homeopathy is a holistic medicine that uses specifically prepared, highly diluted substances with the aim of triggering the body’s own healing mechanism. Homeopathy is based on the principle of “like treats like” i.e. a substance which can cause symptoms when taken in large doses can be used in small amounts as medicine to treat similar symptoms. The concept of homeopathy sometimes used in conventional medicine to treat various health conditions.

Homeopathy is treatment based on the use of highly diluted substances which practitioners claim can cause the body to heal itself. Homeopathy is basically a complementary or alternative medicine different from treatments that are part of conventional western medicine in important ways.

A brief introduction to Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS)

Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine & Surgery (BHMS) is an undergraduate programme that covers in-depth medical knowledge of the homeopathic system. The course is of 5.5-years duration. The main aim of the course is to cover the theoretical and practical knowledge of the homeopathic system. Homeopathy is based on the self-healing power of our bodies and focuses on accounting that.

The course trains the students on various aspects related to homeopathic medicine and treatments such as:

  • Fundamentals of Ayurvedic plant healing
  • Healing through Nutritional Therapies
  • Essential Principles of Homeopathy
  • Mind and body Healing Techniques
  • Introduction to Alternative Medicine

  • Introduction to traditional Chinese medicine
  • Health, wellness and longevity

Eligibility for Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS)

The students seeking admission to BHMS should have passed their PUC or 10+2 classes with PCB or CBZ with 50% aggregate from the recognised board. The eligible students should apply and qualify the NEET entrance exam to get admission to BHMS programmes.

Admission Process

There are two modes of admission procedures for BHMS courses. The first one is Merit based admissions and second one is Direct admissions.

1. Merit Admissions

The first mode of admission is known as merit admission procedure. The students who are interested to join the BHMS degree should mandatorily appear for the NEET entrance exams and undergo counselling to choose their desired colleges for merit seats. The merit seats are allotted to the students according to their rankings and marks obtained by them in their PUC or 10+2 classes.

There are two types of counselling for the Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) course:

1. Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) Counselling

The students who are interested to join the government homeopathic colleges and other homeopathic colleges affiliated to the government should undergo the counselling procedures of Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA). The students interested in merit seats under government quota are required to complete the counselling procedures and join for BHMS course. The Homeopathic colleges under the Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) are affiliated to the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS). The fees are fixed by the government for merit admissions.

2. Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) Counselling

The students who are interested to join the private Homeopathic colleges and deemed universities that are affiliated to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) are required to apply for the MCC counselling procedures. The students should qualify the MCC counselling procedures to get admission to their desired private homeopathic educational institutions for Bachelor of Homeopathic Medicine and Surgery (BHMS) programme.

2. Direct Admission

The eligible students who have appeared for NEET exam can also get admission to BHMS programme through direct admissions. The students under direct admissions can choose their desired colleges for their study. The BHMS students have excellent career opportunities in the homeopathic sciences. They can start independent practice as homeopathic doctors. The BHMS students who are interested in teaching can take up teaching after completing their Master’s. They are hired in many homeopathic colleges as assistant professors and are paid decent salaries.
