The Doctor of Medicine (MD) is a postgraduate course in the field of medicine. The course has a duration of 3 years of theoretical teaching with 1 year of compulsory rotatory internship. There are many medical colleges in Karnataka that offer the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course.

Eligibility Criteria for MD
- A student needs to have a valid Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) graduation certificate from the medical college recognized by the Medical Council of India (MCI)
- The MBBS college that has provided the certificate to the students should be recognized by the Medical Council of India
- The student should score at least 50% marks in the final year of MBBS graduation exams
- The student should not have any type of backlogs before appearing for entrance exams
- The candidate should have completed the rotating compulsory internship of one year in an institution recognized by the Medical Council of India
- The student has to appear for the NEET- PG entrance exam and score very good marks in the NEET- PG entrance exam so that they can be eligible for Doctor of Medicine (MD) Admission
- It is mandatory that the student passes and qualifies in the NEET PG examination
Need for Stipend for MD
Almost every medical college has the provision of a stipend for the students under Doctor of Medicine (MD) courses. This fixed amount of money provided during the course is generally for the student’s living expenses, food, mess facilities, hostel, internships, services, etc.
No differentiation is made between the students under this policy. Almost all colleges today make sure that every postgraduate student gets their stipend regularly and accurately.
MD Colleges In Karnataka That Have The Provision Of Stipend
The stipend may vary with the type of college – Government or Private. Since 2019, the Government of Karnataka has increased the stipend for Doctor of Medicine (MD) courses. The fees of private colleges in Karnataka for the academic year 2020-2021 has been hiked by 15% and that for government colleges by 5%; because of this, the Government has provided a hike in the stipend for the Doctor of Medicine (MD) students by 15% which ranges from Rs. 5,000 to Rs. 10,000.
