The rising inflation and the falling rupee value have shattered the spirits of students who are planning to study abroad. Due to the unforeseen circumstances in the global finance scenarios the education, travel and living expenses have become more expensive affecting many students for aspiring studies abroad. The global survey reports claim that for the academic year 2022-23, the students are paying higher fees for foreign universities, when compared to the fees for the academic year 2020-22.
Each year, lakhs of students from India go to various foreign destinations for higher education in courses such as medical, engineering, management and research. But due to the devaluation of the rupee it has affected many of those planning to go to universities in the U.S., U.K., and Australia.
One of the foreign education consultancies explained that this year, academic expenses will double for students. It is stated that last year, including visa, college fee and other charges, a student would spend around ₹20 to ₹25 lakh per annum, but this year the cost is around ₹25 to ₹40 lakh per annum.
The students studying in foreign universities also feel the pinch, while some are staying in college hostels while some are in private apartments on rent. The students take up part-time jobs to manage the burden and expenses.
